One of Italy's—and the world's—great red wines and the historic flagship wine of the Gaja family. Produced from Nebbiolo grapes, the wine takes its name from the village of its origin. The nose is almost sensual in its complexity, with aromas of forest fruits, plums, licorice, mineral and coffee scents. In the mouth it's dense and full of super-ripe fruit; it also has a long, complex finish with fine, silky tannins and good acidity that would pair well with rich meats and earthy mushrooms. If you must drink it now, decant it first, but if you can wait 10 years, do.
