There's no understating the historical importance of the Burlotto estate. Founded in 1850 by Commendatore Giovan Battista Burlotto, the labels still bear the mark of the royal House of Savoy, who greatly favored Burlotto's wines. The winery retains many of its original methods - foot treading, indigenous yeast, and aging wine in large oak barrels A single plot is dedicated to the Freisa grape, located in the municipality of Roddi. According to Burlotto, Freisa is the "deepest, most barritone voice" of the Langhe reds.

Vinous 92 - 2022 Langhe Freisa is a wonderfully vivid expressive wine. Lavender rose petal mint blood orange and pomegranate give the Freisa its beguiling nuanced personality. Firm yet well-integrated tannins wrap it all together. The aromatics alone are captivating but it's the wine's total sense of harmony that is most impressive of all.
