Dauny Sancerre Rouge Pynoz 2021
The Dauny family has been farming in Sancerre since 1683, making them one of the oldest wine-growing families in the Loire Valley. Today, Claude and Christiane Dauny, along with their children, run the 17-hectare domaine entirely organically, having converted the estate in the early 1990s—well before it became fashionable. Their vines are spread across the limestone and flint slopes around Crézancy-en-Sancerre, where they produce both classic Sauvignon Blanc and this rare Pinot Noir, bottled as Sancerre Rouge “Pynoz.” The 2021 vintage is pure Pinot Noir, fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve its bright, transparent character. It’s light-bodied yet expressive, showing red cherry, cranberry, and subtle earth, with a mineral finish that reflects Sancerre’s chalky terroir.
