The other Piedmont grape (not nebbiolo), ruche is an indigenous varietal that grows in mineral-rich sand and tufa soils. Cultivated only in 7 little villages: Grana, Montemagno, Portacomaro, Refrancore, Scurzolengo Viarigi and Castagnole Monferrato. As Marco Crivelli says, "If someone in Castagnole Monferrato offers you a Ruchè, it’s because he cares about you." Bursts of black pepper and roses. Wonderful dark cherry fruit accompanied by great acidity and mild tannins. Perfect for a meaty stew!
