What Sangiovese is to Tuscany (the grape used to make monumental Brunello di Montalcino), Aglianico is to Italy’s South. It’s their big red grape, capable, in the right hands, of producing deep, age-worthy wines. Founded in 1878 by Angelo Mastroberardino in Atripalda, this historic winery survived the phylloxera crisis by focusing on native Irpinia vines.
