For rum connoisseurs, Rhum Agricole is made directly from sugar cane juice rather than molasses. Less than 5% of the world’s production of rum is made this way and the process yields a dramatically different product. JM can also claim a terroir (‘sense of place’), like that found in good wine. Unlike most sugar cane that is grown on flat land in poor soil, the raw ingredient is cultivated in volcanic soil on the slope of Martinique’s Mount Pelee with a low cloud ceiling and sea breezes. Much like the great vineyards of Burgundy, this single estate microclimate gives JM its unique depth & complexity.
