Jolie-Laide Syrah North Coast 2019
Sometimes fascinating is more alluring than garden-variety beautiful, or so say the winemakers of Jolie-Laide (lit. "Ugly-Beautiful'). Taking the French compliment as their mantra, Jolie-Laide's wines are thoughtful & compelling and nothing like Napa's sleek Cabs.
Their Syrah is crushed full-cluster, followed by 10 months in neutral French oak barrique and so retains a rare complexity for this loveable grape variety more commonly associated with the Rhone Valley. A blend of two Yorkville Highlands vineyard sites, the rugged high elevation Halcon Vineyard, 2400 ft. and the equally compelling Hawks Butte Vineyard which sits at 1200 ft. with rocky, south facing slopes. Violet, camphor, white pepper and cedar.
