Balgera Rosso Valtellina 450 2018
Balgera is old-school Valtellina—no gimmicks, just four generations of winemaking in the Alps since 1885. Paolo Balgera took over at 20 and never looked back, crafting Nebbiolo (aka Chiavennasca) that’s pure, honest, and deeply tied to these sun-drenched terraces. Everything here is done by hand—1,500 hours per hectare kind of hand. This wine is their fresh take on tradition—vibrant yet refined. Pale garnet, with aromas of ripe cherries, plums, and dried herbs. The palate is all red berries, crushed stone, and a whisper of spice, unfolding into leather and tobacco. A bright streak of acidity keeps it crisp. Only 4,300 bottles.
