Jean-Marc Pillot has long been one of the benchmark growers in Chassagne-Montrachet. Among his recent additions is a small parcel in La Maltroie, just 0.16 hectares beside Les Champs-Gains. Planted in 1951, these old vines bring natural concentration and depth, giving a clear, classical voice to this premier cru on clay-limestone soils. The 2023 vintage makes this wine even more scarce. Frost, hail, and a tricky flowering season reduced yields across Burgundy, and Pillot’s already tiny holding produced very little. The wine itself remains true to his style — precise, mineral, and finely balanced — but allocations are tighter than ever. An elegant, focused expression of Chassagne-Montrachet, well-suited to fine seafood, roast poultry, or seasonal vegetable dishes.
