Oenogenesis, founded in 2006 by renowned Greek oenologist Bakis Tsalkos, is a benchmark for thoughtful, minimal-intervention winemaking. Bakis, trained in Montpellier and Bordeaux, returned to Greece in 1985 with a vision to bring out the best of the local terroir and native grapes. His work put Drama—Greece’s youngest wine region—on the map, known for its elegant, aromatic wines and an ideal setting for both local and international varieties. At Oenogenesis, vineyards are farmed with a strict “no chemicals” approach, sulfites are kept below organic standards, and the focus is always on quality over quantity, with 85% of grapes sourced from estate-owned vines. Their special rosé, crafted from the Xinomavro variety, showcases Bakis’ philosophy perfectly. Extended skin contact and a minimal-intervention approach bring out a pure expression of the Drama terroir. It’s a wine that strikes a balance between structure and freshness, with layers of bright red fruit and a natural vibrancy.
