Francois Lumpp Givry A Vigne Rouge 2018
Kermit Lynch has long had a reputation for scouting out some of France's best values. The Lumpp Givry is no exception. This is real red burgundy, earthy and elegant, at a reasonable price for a wine of such quality. The 2018 vintage is outstanding.
François developed his domaine around Givry's best premier cru sites, which, as in most of the Côte d’Or, are situated on the mid to upper level slopes of the rolling hillsides.
As Kermit Lynch writer Dustin Soiseth proclaims:
The 2018 has been hailed by one Burgundian négociant as the greatest Burgundy vintage since 1947. While I’m sure many vignerons will take issue with such a bold claim, there is no quibbling over the fact that the 2018 vintage has produced Pinot Noirs of exceptional quality and richness. With its primarily southern exposure and limestone soils, the A Vigne Rouge vineyard is ideally situated to extract the most from this historically warm vintage, and François’s heady, spicy version is about as opulent as red Burgundy gets.
