On the palate, it moves with quiet complexity: notes of stone fruit, white strawberry, and a hint of white tea. Jolie-Laide is the solo project of Scott Schultz, who works out of a small winery in Sebastopol, producing just 500 cases each year. The name, Jolie-Laide—a French phrase loosely meaning “beautiful in an unconventional way”—captures the spirit of the wines: honest, expressive, and slightly off the beaten path. The label artwork is by Kate Scott, whose design mirrors the wine’s understated, individual style.
