Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2022
This estate feels almost mythical. Producing some of Italy’s finest wines, both reds and whites, each bottle embodies the soul of Old World viticulture. Emidio Pepe’s family, now three generations in, still handles everything by hand: from Emidio himself—elegant in his flat cap and red sweater vest—to his grand-daughter Chiara, who brings their wines to the world, alongside Emidio’s daughters Daniela and Sofia, who run the vineyard. Since the first vintage in 1964, every wine has been grown naturally and vinified using traditional techniques—authentic, “natural wines” long before the term was coined. The Pepe family also has a vast aging cellar, where Emidio’s wife, Rosa, decants bottles to order—perfectly stored, perfectly aged. Their winemaking is pure heritage, unchanged for a century, from biodynamic farming to using massal selections from their oldest vines, bypassing modern clones. It’s almost unreal—timeless wines, made with soul, and absolutely breathtaking in every glass
